Work Permit and SIN
If you would like to work during your stay in Canada, you need an open work permit. Further information is available at Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
You need to have your SIN (Social Insurance Number) before you can start working or accessing government programs.
Certification and Assessment
Make sure if your profession is a regulated occupation, in which case you need to go through a certification process to work in Alberta. Read more
You might consider having your diplomas or certificates assessed by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) as proof for an employer.
Resume
You might need help updating or adapting your resume. The Alberta Employment & Immigration Centre is a helpful resource in building your resume. They also provide a number of interesting courses on career change.
Temp job or Volunteering
The Alberta Employment & Immigration Centre is a good source for information on the Alberta labour market. It should be mentioned that, in general, employers prefer Canadian work experience, and a temp job or doing volunteer work can be your access.
