Activities And Entertainment
Calgary is a large enough city to host a variety of cultural activities
and concerts to appeal to everyone's taste. The better known venues
for these events are usually the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium,
The Performing Arts Centre, various theatres at the University of
Calgary, etc. The Telus Community Pages in the front of your telephone
book provide "Event Seating" information to help you purchase
tickets. Tickets can usually be purchased from TicketMaster at 299-8888
or the box office at the venue holding the event.
ALBERTA
BALLET offers a season series of contemporary and traditional
ballet each year in the Jubilee Auditorium. Alberta Ballet also
hosts touring Royal Winnipeg Ballet and National Ballet productions.
CALGARY
PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA is a professional orchestra providing
concert series featuring pop, baroque, light classics and classical
music in the Jack Singer Hall of the Calgary Performing Arts Centre.
The CPO performs with Calgary Opera.
CALGARY
OPERA has been active for 27 years. Each year the company performs
three operas with international singers in the principal roles in
the Jubilee Auditorium. Calgary Opera also sponsors concerts with
artists such as Kathleen Battle, Kiri Te Kanoa, Frederica Von Strade,
Samuel Ramey, Jessie Norman, as well as special events Opera Brunches
and Dinners where ticket purchasers can enjoy fine cuisine and hear
and meet some of the artists performing principal
roles.

THEATRE
CALGARY AND ALBERTA
THEATRE PROJECTS are Calgary's professional theatre companies.
Their performances are held in the Max Bell theatre and the Martha
Cohen theatre (respectively) of the Calgary Performing Arts Centre.
Theatre Calgary also offers Drama Resource Classes. The Performing
Arts Centre is also home to the One Yellow Rabbit Performing Theatre
(fringe theatre). Tickets can be purchased by calling TicketMaster
or from the theatre's box office one hour prior to the performance.
LUNCHBOX
THEATRE, located at 2 Lvl, 205 - 5 Avenue SW, offers 50 minutes
plays from 12:10 PM.
STORYBOOK
THEATRE focuses mainly on children's theatre and features two
different series: Cookie Cabaret for ages 3 - 7 years and Adventure
Theatre for ages 7 and up. Each series features approximately four
plays per season.
STAGE
WEST provides light theatre entertainment with a buffet meal.
Stage West offers approximately six plays per season.
SHAKESPEAR
IN THE PARK is a late summer outdoor series. Take a picnic and
some deck chairs.
The
UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY and the BANFF
SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS in Banff, Alberta provide and host wonderful
theatre and musical repertoire.
ROSEBUD
THEATRE provides quality dining and live theatre in a charming
country setting. Rosebud is approximately 90 minutes drive from
Calgary. B&B accommodation is available in Rosebud.

MISCELLANEOUS
CONCERTS featuring touring artists from country, folk, pop and rock
musicians are usually held at the Saddledome or the Jubilee Auditorium.
In past year or so, Calgary hosted Celine Dion, Elton John, Cher,
Sarah Brightman, Tina Turner.
