Q. I have heard that most of the community consists of single status employees, or is this outdated information and is their plenty of "family life"?

Fort McMurray is a boom town, and still growing. There are many (young) families. There is lot's of family life, organised through the many schools and other clubs and organisations.

Q. Is there expat mail?

There is no expat mail facility. Canadian Post is a reliable mail service.

Q. Is it easy to find accomodation?

In general most people find accomodation with the help of a relocation agent within a month, but in some periods there are more houses and appartments on the (rental) market than other periods. There is a choice of furnished and unfurnished accomodation.

Q. Is it also possible to use your own car to commute to work or is it unsafe?

People take the bus, carpool or use their own car to commute. It's busy but not unsafe, it takes more than an hour one way and after work you might feel tired. It's a matter of personal choice.

Q. How far is it (in time - by car) to Edmonton and Calgary?

It takes 5 hours to Edmonton and 9 hours to Calgary by car. People here are used to long distances. There are also daily flights.

Q. Is it easy to buy art materials in Fort McMurray?

There are some supplies, but if you are looking for good quality art material, the best way is to order online via artstores in Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver.
